The Origin of Creation and the Beginning of the Enmity Between Man and Satan

In the Islamic worldview, creation began by the will of the One true God — Allah, the Lord of all that exists. He created the heavens and the earth with wisdom, and among His greatest creations was the human being, made from clay and honored above many of His creatures.

The first human, Adam (peace be upon him), was formed by God’s hands, given life by His command, and gifted with knowledge. God ordered the angels to bow to Adam as a sign of honor — and they did. But among them was Iblis (Satan), a being from the jinn, who refused out of pride. He saw himself superior because he was made from fire.

His rebellion marked the beginning of enmity between him and humanity.

Satan was cast out from divine mercy, but he requested a delay — a chance to mislead mankind from the straight path. God granted it as a test for humanity. From then on, Satan vowed to deceive, whisper, and cause mankind to fall, while God, out of His mercy, sent guidance and prophets to show the way back.

Adam and his wife were placed in Paradise. Satan deceived them into disobeying God’s command. They slipped, realized their error, and repented sincerely — and God forgave them.

Islam teaches that life on earth is part of that story: a test where each soul is given the chance to choose between following the truth or being led astray. The Qur’an says:

“Indeed, Satan is an enemy to you; so take him as an enemy.” (Qur’an 35:6)

This enmity continues — not through war, but through deception. And the believer is one who sees through Satan’s tricks and turns back to God, again and again.
