From God’s Comprehensive Commandments in the Religion of Abraham: A Monotheism that Encompasses Belief, Conduct, Legislation, and Recompense

In these concluding verses of Sūrah al-An‘ām, Allah presents a set of comprehensive commandments that form the foundation of the pure religion of Abraham (peace be upon him). They begin with the call to worship Allah alone, without associating partners with Him, and extend to essential principles of conduct: kindness to parents, protection of life, honesty in trade, justice in judgment, and purity in speech and action.

This monotheism is not limited to belief in the heart—it is a way of life that shapes personal ethics, social relations, and legal obligations. Allah reminds humanity that these commandments are His straight path, urging people not to be divided or follow desires.

The passage closes with a reminder that life, death, worship, and sacrifice all belong to Allah, Lord of the worlds. Each soul will return to Him for judgment, and His recompense will be just, based on deeds.

Thus, Islam affirms the legacy of Abraham: a unified monotheism that binds together faith, morality, law, and accountability before God.
